You are allowed to change
your mind out loud.
There is a cost we have invented for changing your mind, and most of it is paid to people who are not even watching.
You said a thing last year. Since then you have read something, or met someone, or simply had longer to think about it. And you keep the old position going anyway, because doubling back in front of others feels like losing.
It is not losing. It is the only evidence that you were thinking at all.
Say the new thing plainly, without the apology in front of it. Most people will not even notice you moved.
