The Quiet Hour
Tomorrow does not need you
until tomorrow.
There is a kind of thinking that only happens after eleven. It is not planning. Planning needs daylight and a pen. This is the same three or four worries going round, picking up speed, arriving nowhere.
Nothing you are turning over tonight can be acted on tonight. The call cannot be made. The letter cannot be sent. The conversation cannot be had. Whatever is needed, it is needed in the morning, and it is needed from someone who has slept.
People who pray have a word for handing a thing over at this hour. People who do not still know the feeling of setting something down at the door and going in. It is not indifference and it is not giving up. It is the understanding that the night is not where the work gets done, and that you were never the only thing holding it up.
Put it down. It will be there in the morning. So will you, and you will be better company for it.
This page is not help, and I am not qualified to give it.
If you are struggling, please ring one of these. Both are better at it than anything on the internet, this page included.
This one is on not sleeping. It is the first.
