The Quiet Hour

My grace is sufficient for you.2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

The apostle Paul had something he called a thorn in his flesh. He never says what it was. People have guessed for two thousand years, and nobody knows.

What he does say is that three times he pleaded with the Lord to take it away. It was not taken away. The answer he was given instead was this: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

Most of us have something like that. A thing we have asked to be rid of and are still carrying. It can feel as if the asking failed.

Paul came to think the weak place was where the help got in.

If you are going to bed with the same thing you woke up with, you are not the only one. Some of us believe there is a grace that meets us exactly there. Either way, you carried it today.
