The Quiet Hour
Act justly. Love mercy.
Walk humbly.Micah 6:8 (NIV)
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." — Micah 6:8 (NIV)
The chapter around it is a courtroom. A case is being heard, and the people in the dock are trying to work out what would be enough. Burnt offerings, they suggest. Calves a year old. Then it escalates, the way panic does — thousands of rams, ten thousand rivers of oil, and finally their own firstborn. They are not being generous. They are asking what the price is, and dreading the answer.
Then the answer comes, and it is nothing on that list.
Be fair. Be kind, and mean it. Do not think too much of yourself. Three things, all of them small enough to start tomorrow, and none of them anything you could put on a receipt.
It is a gentler thing to be asked than the one they were bracing for. It is also a harder one, because you cannot pay it off in a single afternoon and be done.
