The Middle of the Day

A worry written down
takes up less room.

Some worries will not stay still. They go round and round, and each time they come back they seem a little bigger than before.

Part of it, perhaps, is that your head is trying not to lose them. So it keeps bringing them up, just in case.

Writing a worry down tells it that it has been heard. The back of an envelope, the notes on your phone, anywhere will do. Once it is on paper it stops being a fog and becomes a sentence, and a sentence has edges. You can see how big it really is. Sometimes there is a next step sitting right beside it.

The worry is still there. But it is on the page now, and not going round your head all afternoon.
