The Daily Question

What small thing makes
a day feel like yours?

Some days belong to other people.

The school run, the work, the appointments, the messages that need answering. By evening it can feel as though you were only ever a passenger in it.

But most people have one small thing that pulls it back. The first cup of tea before anyone else is up. Ten minutes in the car with the radio before going in. A walk round the block. The crossword. A particular chair.

It is rarely anything you would put on a list of achievements. It is just the part of the day that is yours.

So — what small thing makes a day feel like yours?

Who this is

I’m Andrew. A husband, a father, and a funeral director in Belfast.

I also have days I find hard — my mood, my head, and some days just life. Most of them look perfectly ordinary from the outside.

I started this because what helped me on those days was almost never advice. It was one honest sentence at the right moment, or being asked something worth thinking about by someone who actually wanted to hear the answer.

That is all this is trying to be. It is for everyone — whatever you believe, and whatever kind of week you are having.

One thing worth saying plainly. I set what this page is — the voice, the rules, the things it will never do. The three pieces are written to that every morning by a machine, and every quotation is checked before it goes anywhere. Nothing goes out that I would not put my name to.

No judgement. Just love.
